OUR ROOTS

Our mission is to promote lifestyle and learning of Bioregional herbalism and Regenerative, Organic agricultural practices through classes, workshops, apprenticeships and farm-stays.

We are dedicated to Regenerative farming practices that promote unparalleled ecological health and vitality, demonstrated through building soil, supporting biodiversity, responsible water design and nurturing our connection to the land.

We believe the care and attention (and obsession, if we’re honest) we put into growing results in superior product that offers healing to people and planet.

We are located in the Southern Blueridge Mountains, one of the most biodiverse eco-regions in the world, with rich plant medicine traditions that stem from a vast array of medicine found in the forest and fields. We acknowledge the sacred relationship of the Native people with their homeland. All of our medicine traditions in Appalachia are rooted in early Native relationships with the land. The Appalachian culture that followed blended Native plant wisdom with European healing traditions, resulting in what we consider today as Western herbalism.

Relationships with plants growing in our own ecosystems tend to be the most potent; the medicine of our region is best suited to our constitutions and conditions. We harvest medicine native and naturalized to these mountains, and also cultivate medicinal plants that respond well to the warm and humid climate.

Biodynamic farming works with the effects of cosmic forces streaming to the Earth, via the reflections of the Sun and the Moon. Life is bathed in these frequencies. We are stardust. Our Roots are Stellar.

Farmer-Owner Bio

Stellar Roots founder Lindsey Sita Mann is a leader in small-scale Regenerative land management in the Southeast and has been developing the farm’s infrastructure since 2011, when she became the land’s steward. Via her ecological design firm Sustenance Design, she has supported hundreds of people to create and enhance their own farm and garden ecosystems.  She has nearly 20 years of practical experience and a graduate degree in Landscape Architecture and Conservation Agro-ecology. In a diversity of projects, Lindsey has tailored techniques from Organic, Biodynamic farming and Permaculture to our regional conditions, resulting in what we understand today as Regeneration.

Lindsey leans on her longtime study of Yoga, Ayurveda and Geomancy for a greater context of sacred reciprocity between humans and the Earth. Her relationship with the land is anchored by a devotional connection with Divine Mother and a framework to honor the elemental and ancestral spirits. She was certified as a Yoga teacher in 2002 by the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center, practiced classical Ashtanga Vinyasa for over 15 years and studied Ayurveda with the spiritual head of the Wise Earth School of Ayurveda, Maya Tiwari, for 4 years.  Lindsey is a graduate of the first North American School of Geomancy, founded by Ana and Marko Pogacnik of Slovenia, and maintains regular explorations in earth healing locally and abroad.
